Android 9 Pie Update Ready For Galaxy Tab S3 & Galaxy Tab A 8.0 2017
Certain Asian markets are the first ones to get Android Pie on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 and Tab A 8.0 (2017) models. This is their second major OS update.
Samsung has started rolling out Android 9.0 Pie update to its two of the most popular tablets from 2017—the high-end Galaxy Tab S3 and the budget Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017). As per a recent report by SamMobile, the two old models are receiving the newest Android version nearly a year after its release. The Android Pie update for these Samsung tablets is currently geographically limited and isn’t available to the worldwide audience just yet.
The report suggests that currently, only the LTE-enabled model of the Galaxy Tab S3 is receiving the Pie update, that too only in Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. While only the Malaysian Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) users have access to Android Pie update as of now. The 2017 flagship tablet from Samsung has also received the latest August 2019 security patch with this update with the Tab A 8.0 only getting the June patch.

As you’d expect, the latest Android update also brings Samsung’s brand-new One UI software skin to these two-year-old tablets. The company made some changes to its user interface but still managed to maintain that familiar feel. Some notable features include device-wide night mode and kids mode besides Digital Wellbeing and Bixby 2.0. Although the rollout was limited to a few Asian markets until press time, the Korean company is expected to bring it out for global user base not too long from now.

Launched in February 2017, the Galaxy Tab S3 came featuring a 9.7-inch Super AMOLED display in 4:3 aspect ratio. It deployed the Snapdragon 820 processor which was paired with 4GB of RAM and had a four-speaker setup. It came preinstalled with Android 7.0 Nougat and was later upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo. On the flip side, the entry-level Galaxy Tab A 8.0 (2017) came out in September sporting an 8-inch HD LCD display. It was powered by a Snapdragon 425 chipset and came running Android 7.1 Nougat only to be updated to Android 8.1 Oreo.
