HP Chromebook x2: You Can Now Buy Your First Chrome OS Tablet
The HP Chromebook x2 with keyboard dock and stylus is up for pre-order now with a price starting at $599. It is the first Chrome OS tablet you can actually buy.
The HP Chromebook x2 is up for pre-order in the United States now. It is the first tablet running Chrome OS that you can actually buy. HP announced it back in April with a starting price of $599. While that might seem expensive for a Chromebook, the x2 offers nicer hardware than most. And in addition to that, it kind of gives you a Microsoft Surface Book experience with a real keyboard, stylus support and a detachable tablet. But it is running Chrome OS.
As of now, you can pre-order it on Best Buy only. According to the listing, it is expected to ship by June 7th. I’m sure other shops will carry it in the future too. However, we don’t know if the Chromebook x2 will ever be available in Europe, Asia or elsewhere in the world.
It is a really interesting tablet. The HP Chromebook x2 features a 12.3-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1600. Inside runs an Intel Core m3 7th generation processor with 4GB of RAM and a 32GB internal storage. It includes a MicroSD card slot and two USB C ports. And it is running Chrome OS with Google Play Store support. So you will be able to install Android apps.
HP Chromebook x2 ships with keyboard & pen
All the important hardware sits inside the 12.3-inch tablet. You can connect it to the keyboard dock which is included out of the box. It features a real keyboard and a touchpad. So you can use it like a standard Chromebook notebook, or as a standalone tablet.
HP ships the Chromebook x2 with an active stylus as well. Google has started to support pen input in Chrome OS in the last couple of years. So, the stylus should be useful.
As I mentioned earlier, it is the first Chrome OS tablet you can order right now. However, another one is on its way. The Acer Chromebook Tab 10 is a standard tablet without a keyboard, but it ships with a stylus too. Unlike the Chromebook x2, it is not really a Microsoft Surface competitor. Instead, it competes directly with the new 2018 iPad (review).
HP Chromebook x2
The HP Chromebook x2 is the first detachable tablet running Chrome OS. It features a keyboard dock, and active stylus, and Android app support. The Chromebook x2 offers a high-resolution 12.3-inch display, a fast Intel Core m3 processor, and up to 8GB of RAM.-
