How to Take a Screenshot on iPad: A Quick Guide
We’ll show you step by step how to quickly capture screenshots on the iPad.
Often, it’s the little things that make a difference in everyday life. However, newcomers to the Apple universe sometimes struggle with seemingly simple tasks.
That’s why we’re going to show you today how to quickly take a screenshot with the iPad. A screenshot, for example, is useful for capturing a specific portion of a website or saving an important message. You can then share the saved screenshot via email or iMessage or save it in your Notes app.

Taking Screenshots on iPad – Here’s how it works
Here’s how to take a screenshot on iPad
- Press the top button and one of the volume buttons simultaneously.
- Release both buttons immediately afterward.
- When you’ve taken a screenshot, you’ll hear a corresponding sound, and a thumbnail of the screenshot will temporarily appear at the bottom left of the display.
- Tap on the thumbnail to open it, or swipe left to delete it.
If you’re using an older iPad with a Home button, follow these steps:
- Press the top button and the Home button simultaneously.

You can find the captured screenshots in the “Screenshots” album in your Photos app.
Accessing the Screenshots on iPad
To access the screenshots, open the Photos app and select “Albums” > “Screenshots.”
Taking and Annotating a Screenshot with the Apple Pencil
You can also quickly and easily take a screenshot with the Apple Pencil on the iPad and then annotate it directly with the stylus. Afterward, you can share the screenshot, along with your annotations, directly with friends or colleagues or use it in documents.

Here’s how to take a screenshot with the Apple Pencil
- To take a screenshot, swipe up from any corner at the bottom of the iPad screen with the Apple Pencil.
- Use the Apple Pencil to customize the screenshot with handwritten text or annotations. Use the toolbar at the bottom of the screen to switch between drawing tools.
- Tap the Share icon and choose one of the options to send the annotated screenshot to friends or colleagues. This can be done, for example, via iMessage. Alternatively, you can use the screenshot in a Notes app, for instance.
- Finally, tap “Done” and choose one of the options.
Working with Screenshots in Another App
