Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50

The Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 is a new Android tablet. It is one of the first ones to feature a quantum dot display. Other highlights are Android 7.0 Nougat, a special subwoofer and pretty decent hardware for its price.

Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 Highlights

  • 10.1-inch quantum dot display
  • Good sound with extra subwoofer
  • HDMI out and microSD card slot
  • Android 7.0 Nougat with custom UI

Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 Design

The Design of the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 is very similar to the A3-A40 from last year. It also looks similar to the Iconia One 10 B3-A40, which basically is a cheaper version of this. The A3-A50 is completely black and it has a plastic body. While the build quality seems fine, it doesn’t seem very high end.

On the sides are four separate speakers, as well as a subwoofer. According to Acer, the audio quality should be very good. We’re getting two cameras and a couple of ports. No USB type C, instead it features the older micro USB. It is one of the few tablets with an HDMI out and we’re getting a microSD card slot as well.

Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 Display and Hardware

One of the highlights of the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 is its display. It is a 10.1-inch quantum dot screen with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200. I checked it out at Computex and it did seem very nice.

Inside runs a MediaTek quad-core processor. Sadly, I don’t know the exact model yet. I’m pretty sure that we’re also getting 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.

Android 7.0 Nougat and Software

The Acer Iconia Tab 10 is shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. On top of Android is the customized interface from Acer. The UI is a bit different to vanilla Android. For example, the app drawer is missing. Instead, all installed apps are put onto the home screen directly.

Acer did include a couple of interesting features. I’m not sure how useful they’ll be though. Where you usually see the app drawer button, they implemented a so called Iconia button. If you press it, you can take screenshots and active gesture controls.

Acer Iconia Tab 10 Reviews

I didn’t review the Acer Iconia Tab 10 yet. As of know, you can’t buy it anywhere. But I did check it out in more detail at Computex 2017 in Taipei. Here are my first impressions:

Release Date and Price

According to the Taiwanese company, the Acer Iconia Tab 10 A3-A50 should be released in the summer of 2017. I’m sure it’ll be available almost worldwide for the holiday season. An Acer spokesmen told me it’ll be available starting at 299 US Dollars. The price might vary by region though.

Interesting Alternatives

There are a couple of interesting alternatives you could look at. If you’re planing to get a 4G tablet, check out the ASUS ZenPad 10 Z301MFL. It features a full HD screen, a solid build quality and an optional keyboard dock. Another competitor is the Lenovo Tab4 10 Plus, which I just reviewed.
