Chuwi Hi8 Se: The Basics
Even though the Chuwi Hi8 Se is so inexpensive, you won’t notice it from its looks. In fact, it has an almost full metal body. While it’s not super thin with 7.8mm, that’s totally fine. And it weighs 340g. On the top, we get a micro USB port, a microSD card slot, and a standard headphone jack. Since there is no LTE version, we don’t get a SIM card slot.
The display has a diagonal of 8 inches. It is an IPS screen with a full HD resolution of 1920 x 1200. Additionally, we get a MediaTek quad-core processor that is supported by 2GB of RAM and a 32GB internal storage. The battery has a capacity of 4000mAh.
Chuwi is shipping the Hi8 Se with Android 8.1 Oreo. It is almost vanilla Android, so they did not install a heavy or overloaded UI.

Pricing & Availability
You can get the Chuwi Hi8 Se through several Chinese import shops that ship almost worldwide. However, in Europe and the United States, you can also buy it through Amazon. Usually, prices start at 99 US Dollars or 99 Euros.
Chuwi Hi8 Se Alternatives
There are not that many alternatives to the Chuwi Hi8 Se. With that being said, there are some. A direct and often cheaper alternative is the Amazon Fire HD 8. While it’s screen is not as good, its real-life performance is a bit better. The battery life is much longer as well. However, you have to live with Amazon’s version of Android.
If you need a bit more performance, you can check out the Chuwi Hi9 Pro. While it is around 50 US Dollars pricier, it is noticeably faster, has LTE built-in, and offers a higher-resolution screen.
