Teclast M40: The Basics

The Teclast M40 comes with a rather boxy design and uses a full metal back for that premium feel. Over at the front, you’ll find a decently sized 10.1-inch display in a 16:10 aspect ratio with a full HD resolution. If you plan on using this tablet as an entertainment screen, then you’ll be pleased to know that the tablet has a pair of speakers that are capable of stereo output, even though they’re downward facing.

An octa-core Unisoc processor powers everything up and should be a decent performer if you don’t expect too much from it. However, the company claims that you can game on it. Teclast has provided ample RAM capacity of 6GB and storage space of 128GB, which you can further expand using a microSD card. The software it comes running is Android 10, though the chances of it getting updated to a newer version are pretty slim.

To keep you connected while on the go, the M40 supports 4G LTE and even lets you make cellular calls over VoLTE. There is a 6000mAh battery included inside the tablet that charges over a USB-C port. As for its cameras, you get an 8MP at the back, while a 5MP sits on the front for selfies and for making video calls. The slate retains the headphone jack if you want to connect your wired headphones.

Pricing & Availability

The Teclast M40 is already up for sales in China for a price of $179 for the tablet alone. You can get it by heading to AliExpress’s website, where you can find the availability details for your country. Teclast’s website also lists availability through local Amazon websites in several countries, including the US and the UK, but the tablet seems to be out of stock in these regions.

Teclast M40 Alternatives

In case you don’t want to go through all the struggle of importing your tablet but want to go for a budget device, you should definitely look at Amazon’s Fire HD 10 (review). It not only costs less but is also decently packed for an entertainment machine. Alternatively, there’s also the Lenovo Tab M10 FHD Plus (review), which falls under the same budget and has a cleaner version of Android along with some extra Google Assistant goodies thrown in.

Spending a little more can get you the excellent Apple iPad 8 (review), which the company refreshed only recently and gave it a new core. In the same territory, we have the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 (review) on the Android side offering a decent package to those looking for a media tablet. If you want a desktop-class OS, then the Lenovo Chromebook Duet (review) turns out to be an excellent choice, especially since the company bundles the companion accessories in the box.
