Honor Pad X9: The Basics
Honor’s Pad X9 sports an 11.5-inch TFT LCD screen that runs at a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels. The company claims a 120Hz refresh rate, although our testing makes us doubt that claim. Either way, the screen also has Widevine L1 certification and reasonably thin bezels, making it great as an affordable entertainment tablet. Processor-wise, you get a Snapdragon 685 4G paired with 4GB of RAM, with 128GB of storage. It’s by no means a high-performance tablet, but it’s capable enough for basic tablet tasks and can even handle multi-tasking via MagicOS’s multi-window functionality. A 7250 mAh keeps all this hardware going, and it’s good enough for around 6.5 hours based on our testing.
Honor wraps all this hardware in a metal unibody, which is nice to see on a budget tablet. Honor opted for a unique 6-speaker setup, with a pair of bottom-firing units complementing the usual stereo set. In contrast, the cameras are quite standard, with 5-megapixel shooters front and rear. Honor ships the Pad X9 with MagicOS 7.1, based on Android 13. The company claims that it will release quarterly security updates for the Pad X9 but hasn’t specified for how long. However, we don’t expect it to get the full 5 years that Honor offers for its highest-end smartphones.
The Honor Pad X9 is available in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE versions, although the latter only seems available in Asian markets (such as Malaysia). Both versions have the same RAM and storage setup, although the LTE version includes a microSD card slot alongside the SIM card slot. You can also buy an optional Bluetooth keyboard cover for the Honor Pad X9, which does a good job of turning it into a budget productivity tablet for writers.

Pricing and Availability
The Honor Pad X9’s biggest issue is availability. The Wi-Fi Honor Pad X9 is available in the UK for £169.99 and in Europe for €219.99. The Pad X9 isn’t officially available in the United States. The LTE version is so far only available in Asian markets such as Malaysia, where it costs MYR1099 (approximately $230) and comes with the official Honor Bluetooth keyboard cover for free.
Honor Pad X9 Alternatives
Xiaomi’s Redmi Pad SE is the main rival to the Honor Pad X9 in the budget tablet space. It has similar specs and scores similarly in Geekbench tests but comes with more RAM (6GB or 8GB). However, the Redmi Pad SE’s main advantage is its availability on Amazon. So it’s likely the better buy if you live in the US. The Xiaomi is still worth considering as an alternative even if you can purchase the Honor Pad X9 easily, though, as the additional RAM may prove helpful.
