Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023: The Essentials

Lenovo’s Legion Tab Y700 is truly a flagship tablet in compact form, with its premium metal build housing an 8.8-inch 2560 x 1600 IPS display that runs at a blazing-fast 144Hz. Under the hood is an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that comes with either 12GB or 16GB of RAM depending on your chosen storage option: 12GB/256GB or 16GB/512GB. The battery is a 6550 mAh Li-Po unit, which kept the Tab Y700 running for 6.5 hours in our standardized battery life tests.

The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 has dual rear cameras, with a standard 12MP unit complemented by a 2MP macro camera. Other interesting hardware features include the presence of two USB Type-C 3.1 ports, one of which has a DisplayPort output for connecting external monitors. Like most of Lenovo’s modern tablets, the Legion Tab Y700 is compatible with the Lenovo Tab Pen Plus.

Lenovo ships the Legion Tab Y700 with Android 13, albeit with the China-only ZUI. It’s slightly different but still recognizably Android 13, which is a good thing. Unfortunately, since the Tab Y700 is a China-only device, it doesn’t come with Google apps pre-loaded. We’re also unsure of Lenovo’s long-term update plans; you may not get as many updates with the Tab Y700 as you do with Lenovo’s international tablets.

Pricing and Availability

The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 is only available in China. So, you’ll have to import it yourself if you live elsewhere. You can purchase one for around $500 from Chinese online retailers, but that won’t include shipping and any import duties you’ll have to pay.

It’s available in China for about $300, but by the time we got it in our Berlin office, it costed $439.

Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 Alternatives

Apple’s iPad Mini 6 is the only real alternative to the Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023. It has a faster processor but falls short in other areas such as display refresh rate (60Hz vs. 144Hz) and storage (64GB/256GB vs. 256GB/512GB). However, the iPad Mini 6 is readily available worldwide.

The Lenovo Legion Tab Y700 2023 Edition is by far the best 8-inch Android tablet on the market today. It offers a very pretty and bright 8.8-inch 144Hz display, a very powerful processor, lots of RAM and storage, as well as a good optional pen and up-to-date software. It's biggest drawback is that it's not available internationally. Instead, it has to be imported from China and you have to install the Google Play Store yourself.
