Samsung Galaxy Tab A8: Device Overview

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is a midrange tablet that aims to provide a great balance between design and performance. It has a metal body measuring 246.8 x 161.9 x 6.9 mm and weighs 508 g. At the front is a 10.5-inch TFT LCD screen with a pixel density of 216 ppi.

On the power front, it comes with a Unisoc Tiger T618 chipset, a 12nm octa-core processor consisting of two Cortex-A75 cores clocking in at 2.0 GHz for performance and six Cortex-A55 cores at 1.8 GHz for efficiency. A Mali G52 MP2 chip is integrated into the system to handle the graphics load.

As for configuration, there are several to choose with the base model having 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Opt for the 4GB RAM and 128GB storage variant if you want to max it out.

The tablet has an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front shooter that records 1080p videos at 30 fps. You’ll also enjoy a quad-speaker system that supports Dolby Atmos for your entertainment needs.

Since the Tab A8 is a budget device, it does lack some notable features and components. It lacks a fingerprint scanner, or a face unlock feature for security. Also, don’t expect stylus and keyboard support.

Pricing and Availability

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 was released in January 2022 as the successor to the Galaxy A7 and A7 Lite in the budget tablet category. Price starts at $229 in the US and £219 in the UK for the 32GB configuration. If you want the variant with 128GB of storage, it costs $329 in the US and £269 in the UK.

The tablet is widely available from Samsung’s official website and other major retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and more.

Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 Alternatives

As a budget tablet, there are several alternatives to the Galaxy Tab A8. One to look out for that offers a similar hardware profile at a much lower price point is Amazon’s Fire HD 10, which starts at $139. It has a slower processor, lower display resolution, and no rear camera.

Another tablet to consider is the Lenovo P11, priced at $239. However, you get more storage at 64GB, compared to the Galaxy Tab A8’s 32GB.

Lastly, if you’re looking at an iOS tablet, the Apple iPad 9 with the A13 Bionic chip is a worthy alternative. It’s slightly more expensive at $329, but plenty of deals can get it to as low as $249.
