8 Best Adventure Games for Your Android Tablet or Phone

If you’re looking for the best adventure games on your Android tablet or phone, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve searched the app store and created a list of eight amazing and compelling titles that will keep you hooked for hours.

So, grab your phone or tablet and prepare to embark on an epic journey with these awesome games.

Thimbleweed Park

Two FBI agents, a dead body, and a town with secrets to hide – this is the recipe for your digital detective adventure with Thimbleweed Park. It’s a tribute to the classic point-and-click adventure games from the 80s and 90s, such as Manic Mansion and Monkey Island.

The game is set in a bizarre town where a murder occurred, and you control five characters that are somehow connected to the case. As a fan of puzzle games, I was so engrossed the moment I started up the game that I put my tablet down after playing for hours.

One thing I appreciate about the game is that there’s no hand-holding. After a few minutes teaching you the basics, you’re on your own to solve the mystery. It’s pure deduction and a healthy dose of lateral thinking to go from one quest to another.

It’s not just about brain teasers, though. It also has humor and heart. Laugh at the witty banter between the agents, befriend the eccentric locals, or chuckle at some of the absurd side quests.

If you’re craving a brain-bending adventure with a generous helping of charm, Thimbleweed Park is a gem that I highly recommend you play on your Android phone or tablet.

80 Days

The game is exactly what you think it is since it’s based on Jules Verne’s Around the World in Eighty Days. If you felt the adrenaline while reading the novel, the game puts it on overdrive with steampunk elements, atmospheric storytelling, and unique art style.

You play the role of Passepartout, the loyal valet of the ever-so-slightly-mad Phineas Fogg. The goal is the same as the novel – travel the world in 80 days. The difference here is that you’re in full control and figure out the fastest way to travel via different modes of transportation.

Along the way, you’ll have to manage your finances, health, inventory, and relationship with Fogg. It’s a game of exploration, strategy, and storytelling, which I immensely enjoyed and finished in just a couple of days.

It’s a game I highly recommend and a must-play for thrill-seeking adventurers who love a good story with many twists and turns.

Layton: Curious Village

Forget all the other puzzle and adventure games you played before – Professor Layton and the Curious Village is full of charm, whimsy, and intellectual riddles that will twist your brain. At its core, there’s a mystery that you need to solve together with your trusty assistant, Luke.

The game is a collection of brain teasers and puzzles coupled with an immersive story that will keep you captivated for hours. Now, I love mysteries, and Layton: Curious Village gives me the fix I want, especially on lazy days.

Even though there are puzzles aplenty, it surprised me that they’re not as frustrating as you might imagine. You can’t button-mash your way to solving them, and success relies on careful observation, lateral thinking, and a touch of deduction.

You don’t have to worry when you get stuck, as hints are readily available. Just look for hint coins by tapping on the environment for each scene.

If you’re a fan of beautiful cutscenes, you’ll love Layton with its impeccable voice acting and animation that adds to the atmosphere. It’s a masterclass in storytelling, puzzle design, and charm. So, it’s time to dust off your thinking hats, polish your monocle, and embark on a mind-bending adventure.

Terraria

Prepare for a massive sandbox adventure with Terraria as you craft, build, explore, and fight alone or with friends through a sprawling, pixelated world filled with secrets and danger. You can think of it as similar to Minecraft, only flattened into a 2D version.

However, it’s more than just a Minecraft clone as it adds adventure, RPG, and platform game elements, keeping it fresh and unique. One of the things that I like about Terraria is that there are no quests to follow and endless possibilities for any adventure you can think of.

Explore the surface or dig tunnels to find treasure chests and rare resources that you can use to craft weapons, armor, potions, and more.

Terraria is a game with a lot of depth and demands dedication for the full immersive experience. Yes, its pixel art is charming, but there’s more to it in terms of complexity that seasoned gamers will love. The game has it all, whether you want the basics or delve into intricate contraptions.

I can say that Terraria is one of those complete games that will give you the fix you’re looking for. It’s a game of exploration, strategy, and adventure that will utilize every ounce of your creativity.

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion

At first glance, I never expected Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion to become one of my favorite games on my tablet easily. It has an interesting premise that’s equally hilarious and quirky, which parodies classic action-adventure games.

Imagine Zelda, but instead of rescuing a princess, you’re saving yourself from the clutches of corrupt Mayor Onion. Your goal is to avoid paying your taxes by ripping up any documents you find and helping the other inhabitants.

It’s a quirky, delightful adventure game with clever dialogue and challenging puzzles. However, my only gripe is that it’s short and ends too quickly, as you’re still getting into grips with the game.

Turnip Boy is the game you will enjoy if you love quirky and unique characters. So, grab your pitchforks, channel your inner rebel, and prepare to evade attacks and tax duties.

Machinarium

If you’re looking for a different game experience from your run-of-the-mill adventure games, Machinarium should fit the bill perfectly. It’s a beautiful, atmospheric, point-and-click adventure game that tells the story of a robot who tries to save his girlfriend by the Black Cap Brotherhood.

As soon as you launch the game, you’ll come face-to-face with this beautiful hand-drawn world that bursts with detail. Coupled with a captivating narrative and over 100 puzzles to solve, it’s a game that will captivate you for hours.

The one thing I appreciate about Machinarium is that it totally dispenses with the dialogue and crafts its narratives using gestures, expressions, and diagrams. It makes the game more immersive and universal, as anyone can easily understand and enjoy the story.

Machinarium offers a delightful blend of clever puzzles, heartwarming stories, and stunning hand-drawn visuals. It’s one of those games that is highly recommended that you try if you want to spark your imagination and warm your heart.

Swordigo

Swordigo isn’t the flashy game you expect from a modern title, but you can consider it an homage to classic action-adventure games like Metroid and Castlevania. However, don’t mistake its retro facade for simplicity, as it packs a punch with its RPG elements that let you customize your character and equipment.

Even though it’s an action-adventure game, I noticed while playing that it requires some thought. The enemies are appropriately varied and challenging, with most requiring quick reflexes and thoughtful use of your abilities. Button mashing won’t cut it and would be the fastest way for you to fail your quest.

Since it brings back memories of playing Castlevania, one complaint I have with the game is that there are instances when the story needs more depth. However, these minor blemishes don’t take away my delightful experience playing the game.

Swordigo is a retro gem that shines using a tried and tested formula. It’s well-crafted and an absolute must-play on your Android phone or tablet. It won’t even take you more than 15 hours to complete, so it’s a fast-paced adventure.

Crashlands

Buckle up since you’re in for a wild ride through a post-apocalyptic world with Crashlands. It’s a game where crafting reigns supreme, with elements of survival and adventure that add to the game experience.

Even though the premise is clear, I realized after playing for a few minutes that Crashlands differs from your typical survival adventure game. It’s clever and innovative, with RPG elements that allow you to create mind-bending contraptions. You’ll quickly discover endless possibilities, so I advise just going for it.

One of the downsides of playing Crashlands is that it goes through your device’s battery like a ravenous Wompit. Crafting advanced items can also test your patience, so ensure you have an open mind while playing.

If you’re looking for an adventure unlike anything you’ve ever had, grab the duct tape and jet pack and start creating those weird inventions that will save the day.
