Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE: An Overview

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE is a midrange tablet that borrows some features from the flagship Galaxy Tab S9 series but makes some compromises to keep the price affordable. It has a metal body with plastic antenna lines measuring 254.3 x 165.8 x 6.5 mm and weighs 524 g.

It has a 10.9-inch IPS LCD with a 16:10 aspect ratio, ideal for watching videos and browsing the web. The display also has a 1440 x 2304 pixels resolution, translating to a pixel density of 249 ppi. It also has a 90 Hz refresh rate, smooth animations, and scrolling.

The tablet is powered by Samsung’s Exynos 1380, a midrange processor that can handle most apps and games. It has eight cores, with four ARM Cortex-A78 at 2.4 GHz and four ARM Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.8 GHz. It also has a Mali-G68 MP5 to handle all graphical tasks.

Two configurations are available for the Tab S9 FE, either 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128 GB or 256 GB of storage. It’s also expandable up to 1 TB via a dedicated microSDXC slot.

One notable flagship feature of the Tab S9 FE is its support for the S Pen, which is included in the box. It attaches magnetically to the back of the tablet for easy storage. The pressure-sensitive tip supports Air Actions to work with various apps and features.

It also has DeX mode, enabling you to use it like a laptop, but you can’t connect it to an external monitor.

Pricing and Availability

Samsung launched the Galaxy Tab S9 FE in the US and UK in Q4 of 2023. It comes in two configurations. The  6GB + 128GB Wi-Fi-only model starts at $449 in the US and £449 in the UK. However, if you want more versatility, opt for the 8GB + 256GB model for $519 in the US and £519 in the UK.

If you want to get the 5G version, you’ll have to pay $100 or £100 more on top of the retail price. These prices do go down quickly, so there’s a good chance you can snag these devices on deals from online and offline retailers.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE Alternatives

If you’re looking for a more flagship experience than the Galaxy Tab S9 FE, you can go for the previous generation Galaxy Tab S8. It comes with a more robust chipset and a better display. Wireless Samsung DeX is also great if you like to use your tablet as a laptop replacement.

Another suitable alternative is the iPad Air 5, Apple’s midrange tablet with the M1 chip. If you’re comfortable using a different OS, the iPad Air offers superior performance and a more refined app ecosystem.

Other devices like the Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 or P12 will also do the trick for a more affordable option.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE Review
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE is currently the best mid-range tablet with a pen. We get a pretty good overall package here with a high-resolution 10.9-inch 90Hz IPS display, a great design, latest software with long updates, and the S Pen, which is included. The S9 FE has many premium features such as a fingerprint reader, good speakers, and a water and dust-resistant body. It would be even better if the processor was more powerful. So, it's not a perfect gaming tablet.
