How To Take Screenshots On Samsung Tablets: Quick Explaination

Taking screenshots on tablets is not any different from taking screenshots on a smartphone. But not every tablet supports the same functionality or commands for taking screenshots. I recently shifted to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A9+ tablet and one of the first things that I googled was about how to take a screenshot on a Samsung tablet even though I already use a Samsung smartphone. I came across Samsung’s official guide on how to take a screenshot on a Samsung tablet and tried every method listed there to write this guide for you and help you navigate different ways to take screenshots on Samsung tablets.

5 Ways to Take a Screenshot on a Samsung Tablet

Let me explain each method to take screenshots on your Samsung tablet in the easiest way possible.

Method 1: Using Power Button + Volume Down Button

This is the quickest and easiest method to get a screenshot on your Samsung tablet. Here’s how you do it:

1. Open the page or section that you want to take a screenshot and then press the Power Button + Volume Button keys simultaneously. 
2. Make sure you quickly press and release both of the keys at the same time. Do not press and hold them as that gesture can bring up the power off and restart options on screen. 
3. As soon as you press and release the keys you will hear the camera click sound and an instant flash on the screen. This means you have successfully taken the screenshot.
4. The screenshot image will be automatically saved in your tablet’s gallery. You can go to the gallery to check the screenshot and to edit it if you want to crop or hide any part of it.

Although this is the best way to take a screenshot on your Samsung tablet, some users might want options. You see, sometimes getting the timing right for pressing both the buttons could be a challenge for some. Such users can explore the next method that just involves swaying their palm. 

Method 2: Using Palm Swipe Gesture

Now, if you want to take screenshots on your Samsung tablet without touching any keys then this method is just what you need. For this you need to go to the “Settings” of your Samsung tablet and do the following steps:

1. Open Settings app on your Samsung tablet
2. Now, tap the search icon there and type “Palm swipe to capture”
3. You will then be shown the Palm swipe to capture option, slide the toggle next to it to enable the option on your Galaxy tablet for taking screenshots
4. Once the option is enabled, you can open anything on your Samsung tablet and smoothly swipe your palm over the tablet screen without touching it. We say, keep at least 1 inches away from the screen. Try this gesture once and check if it is triggering screenshot action on your tablet.

While this method is a great way to get your way through taking a screenshot without touching any part of the tablet, this feature is not available on some tablets like Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. 

Method 3: Via Quick Settings Panel

Another easy and arguably way to take a screenshot without using any button is through the quick settings notification panel. All you have to do is follow the instructions below:

1. Open the screen that you want as a screenshot 
2. Now, just swipe down the notification panel and tap on the “take screenshot” option
3. You will hear a camera shutter sound and the screenshot will be saved to your tablet’s gallery

In case you don’t see the screenshot option in the notification panel then all you have to do is tap on the “+” sign in the last slide of notifications and then drag and drop the “take screenshot” option from the available stack of buttons to the notification panel. Once done, you can follow the steps mentioned earlier to take a screenshot on your Samsung tablet without using any buttons.

Method 4: Via Google Assistant or Bixby

This method is for those who don’t want to do any movement and yet get a screenshot on their Samsung tablet. All you have to do is use your voice and command Bixby or Google Assistant to “take a screenshot”.

Just open the screen that you want as a screenshot and then just say that magic command like – “Hi, Bixby. Take a screenshot” or “Ok, Google. Take a screenshot.” In a few seconds after the command, you will hear the camera shutter sound and the screenshot would be automatically saved to the Gallery. 

Method 5: For Samsung Tablets With an S-Pen

If you’ve got a Galaxy Tab S6 or a newer model, you can easily snap a screenshot using your S Pen with features called Screen Write and Screen Select. Just go to the screen you want to capture. Take out your S Pen and tap on Screen Write or Select Write from several other options that show up on the screen. 

The Screen Write option is something that I have used quite a few times on my Galaxy Note 10 Lite smartphone as well. It comes in very handy when I want to highlight any detail in the screenshot. On the other hand, the “Screen Select” option helps in taking the screenshot of the selected area, this way, I don’t have to go to the gallery and crop the already taken screenshot. 

Your tablet will snap a picture of the screen you’re looking at. If you feel like doodling or writing something on the screenshot, go ahead and use the tools provided. Once you’re finished, hit Save to keep the screenshot in your Gallery, even if you didn’t scribble anything on it. Easy, right?
