Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 5 Announced: Everything You Need to Know
The new Tab Active 5 supports an S-Pen too with IP68 rating. The tablet is aimed at users who work in tough surroundings
After a slew of leaks, Samsung has finally introduced the much-awaited rugged tablet, the Tab Active5. Featuring an 8-inches LCD display with a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and higher touch sensitivity, similar to its smartphone counterpart called XCover.
The Galaxy Tab Active5 comes powered by an octa-core Exynos 1380 5 nm processor with Mali-G68 MP5 GPU. Offering two memory configurations – 6/128 GB or 8/256 GB – the Tab Active5 includes a microSD slot supporting up to 1TB of additional storage. The IP68-certified tablet also supports an S Pen, which is housed in a separate protective case instead of being integrated into the tablet body (as you can see in the image below).
Designed to withstand various environmental conditions, the Tab Active 5 holds MIL-STD-810H0 certification, ensuring resilience against extreme altitude, humidity, immersion, salt fog, dust, vibrations, and drops. However, the display is protected by the slightly older Gorilla Glass 5.
For connectivity, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab Active5 offers 5G and Wi-Fi 6 for reliable online access. Interestingly, the tablet features a No Battery Mode, wherein the tablet can operate without a battery. This feature allows for longer use at kiosks or in vehicles, safeguarding battery health in hot surroundings.

Featuring physical keys on the bottom bezel, including a home key with an embedded fingerprint scanner, the tablet houses a removable 5,050 mAh battery, enabling it to function without a cellular connection. To support long usage in field operations, the Galaxy Tab Active5 also supports quick charging while the replaceable batteries also help avoid downtime within the workplace, or during activities outside it.
The Galaxy Tab Active 5 also comes with features like increased speaker volume, programmable keys, and barcode scanning via Knox Capture. Enhanced PC connectivity allows smooth content sharing and simultaneous displays, enabling continuity of work between mobile and PC through Link to Windows.

Yes! The one tablet I have been waiting for over a year. I prefer the smaller 8 inch form factor. And with the S Pen, the Active5 is truly the iPad Mini killer. I am definitely getting the 8/256 version with 5G.
