Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 & T5 10 to get Android 9.1 Pie Update
The Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 and MediaPad T5 10 are going to get Android 9.1 Pie and EMUI 9.1 Updates. Here is everything you should know.
Huawei is planning to update the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 and MediaPad T5 10 from Android 8.0 Oreo to Android 9.1 Pie and EMUI 9.1. That’s what the company announced on the Chinese Twitter alternative Weibo. In total, they’re planning to bring 49 devices with the Huawei and Honor branding to its newest version of EMUI.
The Chinese manufacturer already started an OTA rollout to Android 9.0 Pie and EMUI 9.0 for the Huawei MediaPad M5 10, M5 Pro, and MediaPad M5 8 a couple of weeks ago. It seems like they will get version 9.1 in the future too.
With EMUI 9.1, not much is changing compared to 9.0. For some devices, the GPU Turbo-Mode will be improved, HiVoice will get better, and you can long-press the home-button to trigger a voice assistant. More changes will be announced with each device getting the update.
MediaPad M5 Lite 10 & MediaPad T5 10: Middle-Class With Android 9 Pie
I expected that the standard MediaPad M5 series will be updated for at least a year. Those are premium tablets and they have to be up-to-date for a while. However, I’ve been a bit surprised with this announcement for the MediaPad M5 Lite 10 and MediaPad T5 10. It’s nice to see that middle-class tablets that sell for 200 to 300 Dollars will get Android 9.1 Pie. That’s unusual in this price range.
As of writing this, we don’t know yet when they will get EMUI 9.1. Huawei just said that they’re planning to update them.

In total, the Huawei MediaPad M5 10, MediaPad M5 8, MediaPad M5 Pro, MediaPad M5 Lite 10, and MediaPad T5 10 will get OTA updates. Oh, and the MediaPad M5 Lite 8 is listed to receive Android 9 as well. However, right now, it’s available in China only.
The list with tablets running Android 9 is not long yet. At the beginning of 2019, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 2019 and Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e are the only tablets that ship with Pie directly. The MediaPad M5 10 and Galaxy Tab S4 got updates though.

Hmmmm, my Chinese is rusty but nowhere in that announcement does it say specifically “T5”. The last one there in the list just says “5”. So…any news on this? I’ve been looking for a new tablet and if T5 gets Android 9, I’m buying one. If not, I’m not buying one.

Do you know if the Mediapad M5 Lite 10.1 got an update to 9.1? Still not sure which to go for, Galaxy Tab A 8 with S-pen, or the M5 Lite 10.1 with pen. If Huawei for some reason decided not to update the Lite, I will probably go for the Galaxy.
