Getac ZX80: The Overview

Getac ZX80

Getac’s ZX80 packs an 8-core Qualcomm QCS6490 CPU and Hexagon NPU under the hood. It’s not a common CPU to see in consumer tablets, most of which opt for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon CPUs. Getac claims that the NPU makes the ZX80 perfect for industrial and workplace use, helping with tasks such as “facilities management, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control, real-time analytics, and electronic logging device (ELD) duties.”

Getac pairs this CPU and NPU combo with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of expandable storage. The display is an 8-inch, 1920 x 1200 TFT LCD that maxes out at a claimed 1000 nits of brightness. The ZX80 has a 4060-mAh battery as standard, but you can add an extra battery, with either a 4990-mAh battery or a high-capacity 9980-mAh Li-ion unit available.

Getac wraps this hardware in a rugged body with IP67 and MIL-STD-810H certifications, which indicate that the ZX80 is waterproof and has met the US military’s standards for environmental durability. As you might expect from an industrial tablet designed for outdoor use, the Getac ZX80 supports all the major GPS services via an optional module. Cellular connectivity is also present as standard.

The ZX80 ships with Android 13, and Getac promises five years of security updates and “at least” 3 Android OS versions.

Pricing and Availability

Getac isn’t marketing the ZX80 for consumer use, and it doesn’t seem to be available at retail like tablets usually are. If you’re interested in one, you’ll have to go through specialist resellers of industrial and commercial hardware. Prices start at €1099.

Getac ZX80 Alternatives

If you’re looking for a rugged tablet, you may want to consider the Doogee R20 and Doogee R10 instead. These tablets still have MIL-STD-810H certification and good IP ratings but are more readily available than the Getac ZX80.
