Samsung Galaxy Tab A9: Device Information

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 is a compact, lightweight tablet that measures 211 x 124.7 x 8 mm and weighs 333 g. It comes in three color options: Graphite, Silver, and Navy.

At the front, it’s highlighted by an 8.7″ TFT LCD screen with a display resolution of 800 x 1340 pixels, translating to a pixel density of 179 ppi. Since the tablet is a budget option, it lacks any kind of screen protection or an anti-reflective coating.

When it comes to hardware, the Tab A9 is powered by a budget device favorite, the Mediatek Helio G99, which is an octa-core chip with two 2.2 GHz Cortex-A76 cores and six 2.0 GHz Cortex-A55 cores. The processor is also paired with the Mali G57 MC2 GPU for gaming and graphics-intensive tasks.

You can get the Tab A9 in a couple of configurations. The base is 4 GB RAM with 64 GB of storage, and the higher-end variant comes with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB of storage. A notable feature of the tablet is its microSDXC card slot, allowing you to expand the storage up to 1 TB.

For security, the Tab A9 does not have a fingerprint sensor. It does support Face Unlock but only uses the webcam, so it’s not as secure as a passcode.

The tablet has an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front shooter, which is adequate for basic photography and video calls. To connect to the internet and other devices, it utilizes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The tablet also has a 5G variant to keep you connected while on the go.

Pricing and Availability

Samsung makes the best high-end tablets in the market today. However, they also make versatile budget and entry-level devices like the Tab A9. When the company launched this line in October 2023, it was notable that the US was not included in that list.

That could be changing soon as Samsung US has put up a couple of listings for the tablet on their online store. Currently, the tablet is unavailable in the US, but you can get it from third-party retailers like Amazon at $159.

Fortunately, the Tab A9 is available in the UK, and the 64 GB variant starts at £169. If you want the 128 GB variant, you’ll have to shell out £209. Apart from the UK, the model is also available in the EU, with the base model starting at €179, and the 128 GB variant is priced at €229.

Alternatives

When it comes to budget tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9 is one of many options, as there are several that might suit your needs.

One alternative to look out for is the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. It’s a tablet with the same design and display as the Tab A9 but with a slower processor and less memory. It costs less, starting at $159 for the Wi-Fi-only model and $199 for the 5G model.

A budget option with a bigger screen and better hardware is the Xiaomi Redmi Pad SE. It’s a 10.1-inch IPS LCD with a higher resolution and faster refresh rate. It also has a faster processor and better storage options.

Lastly, if you want a smaller and more powerful tablet, consider the Apple iPad Mini 6. It’s a more expensive option, starting at $499, but it has a much faster processor, more memory and storage options, and a better camera setup.
