Apple to Overhaul iPad Pro 2024 Models with OLED Displays, More Power
New iPad Pro model is in works with OLED display, M3 chipset, and more.
Apple is reportedly set to give its flagship tablet, the iPad Pro, a long-awaited refresh. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the tech giant is working on an upgraded Pro model with significant improvements in the processor, display, and camera departments. In addition, Apple is rumored to be launching two new iPad Pro models next year, featuring the successor to its M2 chip and OLED displays. To complement these advancements, the company is said to be planning a redesigned version of its Magic Keyboard accessory for the iPad Pro.
In his latest weekly newsletter, Gurman reveals that Apple’s upcoming iPad Pro models are internally known as J717, J718, J720, and J721. Unlike last year’s iPad Pro models, Gurman reports that these versions will feature OLED displays. The tablets will come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, with the latter being only slightly larger than the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2022) model.
The Apple iPad Pro M2 is the best tablet you can buy right now. It's more powerful than all competitors, has two very pretty 11-inch and 12.9-inch displays, as well as a premium built. We get great premium features like the good Apple Pencil 2, fantastic keyboard covers, facial recognition, and good speakers. However, compared to its predecessors, almost nothing has changed.
In contrast to the current mini LED screens on the iPad Pro, the new OLED screens will enhance color accuracy and contrast, while also providing higher brightness levels. The base model of the iPad Pro will continue to be 11 inches, but the larger variant will feature a slightly bigger 13-inch screen compared to the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which holds the title for Apple’s largest tablet until now.
If the leaked information proves accurate, these will mark the company’s first foray into using the display technology found on its smartphones for their tablets. OLED displays, known for their superior color accuracy and heightened brightness levels compared to LCD panels, will likely be the technology of choice. Additionally, Apple is working on revamping its Magic Keyboard to incorporate a larger trackpad, seamlessly blending the two products and resembling a more laptop-like experience, as mentioned in Gurman’s newsletter.
Also, the upcoming iPad models will feature a robust new processor – the much-anticipated M3 chip from Apple. This advanced chipset is also expected to debut in the next generation of Apple’s computers and laptops, as reported by Gurman. It is speculated that the upcoming 3nm chip will provide enhanced efficiency and performance compared to the current-generation MacBook, iPad, and Mac models featuring the 4nm M2 chips.
According to Gurman, the launch of the new revamped iPad Pro is not expected until spring or early summer. This means that the new tablet is likely to hit the market in 2024. Apple, based in Cupertino, is aiming to boost iPad sales with this new variant. The upcoming Apple event, scheduled for next month, will predominantly focus on the new iPhone 15 series and Apple Watch models. There is another launch expected in October, possibly for the first M3 Macs. However, instead of a large-scale offline event, it may be a more low-key soft launch.
